Yesterday, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame announced the artists that are up for induction this year. These 15 finalists will be on the ballot that’s being sent to the voters.
The official class will be announced in December . . . and the ceremony is happening next April in New York City.
Here’s this year’s list . . . The Cars, Cheap Trick, Chic, Chicago, Deep Purple, Janet Jackson, The JB’s, Chaka Khan, Los Lobos, Steve Miller, Nine Inch Nails, N.W.A, The Smiths, The Spinners, and Yes.
The acts being nominated for the FIRST TIME are: The Cars, Cheap Trick, Chicago, Janet Jackson, The J.B.’s, Chaka Khan, Los Lobos, and Steve Miller.
Interestingly enough, all of them have been eligible before . . . so the Rock Hall didn’t choose anyone who just became eligible.
The Smashing Pumpkins and Blur are the biggest “snubs” that could’ve been nominated in their first year of eligibility.
The rest of the new crop features ’90s stars like: 311, Alice in Chains, Blues Traveler, C & C Music Factory, Hole, Kid Rock,Mariah Carey, Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Moby, Primus, The Rembrandts, The Toadies, and Vanilla Ice.
That’s good . . . because if C & C Music Factory or the Mighty Mighty Bosstones were inducted in the Rock Hall before acts like Deep Purple, Chicago, or Cheap Trick . . . it’s possible that would trigger the End-Times.
Chic has been a finalist 10 times . . . making them the most-nominated act never to get in. N.W.A has been nominated four times, while Deep Purple and The Spinners have gotten to this stage three times.
Last year’s class included Ringo Starr, Lou Reed, Green Day, and Joan Jett and the Blackhearts.
